Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Job Description Summary
Position Summary:
DSPs provide daily support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential setting. They ensure health, safety, engagement, and dignity for each person served.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with personal care, hygiene, and grooming
Support individuals in daily activities (e.g., cooking, cleaning, recreational activities)
Administer medications as trained and required
Complete daily documentation and shift notes accurately
Follow individual support plans and behavioral plans
Ensure a safe, clean, and person-centered environment
Accompany individuals to appointments or community outings
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
Respond to emergencies and follow proper reporting protocols
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license (preferred)
Ability to complete physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing
Must pass background checks and complete required trainings
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Lead DSP and ultimately the Residential Director.
