Job Summary

The General Shop Helper supports daily production by assisting with installation, assembly, and preparation tasks. Responsibilities include installing panels, insulation, exhaust systems, and cables, performing dry ice blasting, touch-up painting, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This role also involves general labor such as loading/unloading, machine assistance, and supporting team operations as needed.

 

Job Description

  • Install and screw in panels
  • Insulate and install mesh grills
  • Install exhaust systems and wrap mesh around the exhaust
  • Run and install cables
  • Place and secure drain pans
  • Install heavy grafting components
  • Perform dry ice blasting to prep units for paint
  • Touch up paint as needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area during and after each shift
  • Follow blueprints, instructions, and safety protocols
  • Support team members and contribute to a productive work environment
  • Places products in/on equipment or on work surfaces for further processing, inspecting, and wrapping
  • Loads/unloads items from machines/conveyors
  • Helps to care for machines, adds coolant, and lubricates parts
  • Helps start machines or equipment to begin production processes
  • Helps production workers by performing duties of lesser skill, such as supplying or holding materials or tools, and/or cleaning work areas and equipment
  • Perform housekeeping activities to keep the shop area and equipment clean and organized
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Skills Required

  • At least one year of experience is preferred but not required
  • Preferred candidate: familiar with manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of specific and general safety policies and procedures as relates to the plant and the position is preferred
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, tape measure, grinders, and saws safely
  • Strong and clear communication skills – ability to give clear directions to others
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret electrical drawings
  • Forklift operation
  • Knowledge of OSHA procedures, particularly Lockout Tagout and electrical testing
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math problems
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (preferred but not required)

 

Additional Requirements

  • Work Environment:
    • Heavy manufacturing with loud noise levels
    • Enclosed, but not air-conditioned work areas
    • Space heaters and fans provided
  • Physical Demands:
    • Over 2/3 of the time is spent standing and using hands to handle material
    • Spends under 1/3 of the time walking, talking, hearing, and lifting items weighing an average of 50 lbs.
  • Dependable – report to work every day on time
  • Flexibility with schedule and willing to work extra hours (Fridays, weekends as needed)
  • Willingness to work in a non-airconditioned environment (both inside and outside)
  • Shift Hours:
    • 1 st Shift, Mon to Thu, 6:00 am – 4:30 pm
    • 4–10-hour shift

Pay Rate/Salary

  • $16.00/hr.
