Description

The School District of West Allis-West Milwaukee is in need of a Long Term Substitute for the 2025-2026 school year at the location listed above. Applicants must be certified teachers with a current DPI license or hold a Substitute Permit through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District is currently seeking a Long Term Substitute for Educational Asssitant - Special Education for the Transition Program housed at the Madison campus. The Special Education Transition Assistant will provide comprehensive and specialized instruction to students in a community-based transition programming option to students with IEPs that are aged 18-21. Environments for instruction will include the classroom, community, building, and job site.

The primary goal of the Transition Assisant is to provide learning experiences that will empower students to become confident, independent, and productive members of their community. The transition assistant will assist students and families in obtaining services necessary to transition from the high school setting to a post-secondary setting whether for post-secondary education, employment, living or long term support. The transition teacher will be able to adapt to varying student needs throughout the year and will be a key team member in transition planning/programing.

The rate of pay is: $183.12 per full day assignment and $91.56 per half day assignment

Position Requirements:

• Implement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time and motivates students to learn and participate
• Instructs students regarding a variety of classroom topics and courses of instructions
• Follow Lesson plans as required by school and WAWM district policy
• Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with lesson plans
• Address the various learning styles of students accordingly
• Model correct use of spoken and written English language
• Demonstrate professional practices in teaching

Classroom Management:

• Maintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with WAWM policy, state , and all applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and school property
• Remain in classroom and monitor students at all times
• Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to school principal or school personnel immediately
• May supervise students in out-of-class settings (e.g., assemblies, lunchroom, schoolyard
• Experience with urban students in a technology rich, personalized environment is preferred.
