Position Details:

The Opportunity:

Under general supervision, this position extracts DNA or RNA from a variety of sample types and performs diagnostic assays including PCR, RT-PCR, and Real-Time PCR; Assists in new test development; Enters data into Laboratory Information Management System; follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conforms to Quality Assurance standard; provides assistance to the faculty member(s) and manager in charge of the Molecular Diagnostics section of WADDL. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 & 3 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible .

Monthly Salary :

$4,542 to $6,107 | Range 50 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, or a related science OR Equivalent education/experience.
  • Physical eligibility required for working in a BSL-2 & 3 environment. See the following link for more information.
  • Must be able to and willing to work overtime and possibly travel to perform field work in the event of a disease outbreak.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry or a related science field.
  • Experience in diagnostic microbiology laboratory.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in isolation of DNA from tissue and body fluids/samples, followed by PCR.
  • Experience working with zoonotic agents in appropriate biosafety levels.
  • Knowledge of infectious diseases.
  • Experience using COFL or similar laboratory information management or electronic medical record system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
