Job Description

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high‑speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 75,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full‑time Vehicle Technician at JFK Airport we’re looking for?

Your future role

Starting rate: $33.26/hour

Take on a new challenge and apply your hands‑on technical expertise in a dynamic, safety‑critical transportation environment. You’ll work alongside a passionate, dedicated and collaborative team supporting the reliable operation of AirTrain vehicles and supporting equipment.

You’ll play a key role in keeping our vehicles safe, dependable and ready for service. Day‑to‑day, you’ll work closely with colleagues across maintenance, operations and technical support teams, performing detailed diagnostics, system repairs, and component overhauls.

You’ll specifically take care of troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, as well as machining, fabricating or welding components when needed. You may also support train coordination activities and first‑line response to operational issues.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Restoring vehicles to service through effective troubleshooting and repair
  • Maintaining mechanical, electrical and electronic subsystems to agreed standards
  • Performing machining, fabrication, welding and component overhauls as required
  • Conducting tests, inspections and documentation to support safe, compliant operations
  • Offering guidance to junior staff, apprentices or service personnel when needed
  • Ensuring train readiness by configuring and operating vehicles safely and accurately

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. You don’t need every skill listed, but here are some that will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Experience or understanding of mechanical, electrical or electronic systems
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, schematics and maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of machining, fabrication or welding techniques (an advantage, not a must)
  • Confidence with hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a safety‑critical environment
  • A proactive, detail‑oriented and accountable mindset
  • A desire to learn, grow and take on increasingly complex tasks

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life‑long transformative journey – the rail and automated transit industries are here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, technical challenges and long‑term career opportunities
  • Work with innovative equipment and maintenance technologies
  • Collaborate with helpful colleagues across multiple disciplines
  • Contribute to the reliability and safety of a critical transportation system
  • Utilise our hands‑on, team‑oriented working environment
  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose as new opportunities arise
  • Benefit from our investment in your development through structured training
  • Benefit from a fair and competitive reward package

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us — though many of us become one along the way. We guarantee that when you see the system you support running smoothly, you’ll be proud.

If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

As a global business, we’re an equal‑opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63 countries we operate in. We’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
