The Sterile Processing Distribution (SPD) Technician 3 is responsible for disassembling, decontaminating, cleaning, reassembling, packaging, and sterilizing instrumentation used for surgical cases, clinics and other nursing units. Ensures efficient flow of the instrument and supply processes. Provides both disposable and reusable equipment to the Operating Room. Acquires and maintains an advanced knowledge of OR instrumentation and supplies in order to provide advanced assistance to OR Staff and other SPD staff, particularly in problem solving with the SPD and OR staff. Responsibilities include assisting in the orientation of new staff and the continuing education of all staff. Assists as a lead to SPD staff in the absence of the SPD Supervisor.

Assists in resolving problems for various OR services regarding assembling and processing issues. Exhibits special expertise regarding instrumentation and supplies for several OR speciality areas. Works with sales reps to correctly decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize loaner trays. Works with the Perioperative Instrument Coordinator to replace and repair instruments as needed. Works with the Inventory Specialist to resolve supply issues. Assists new staff with orientation to department and initial competencies. Assists in annual staff competency assessments.
