About the Role:
Robert Half is seeking an experienced Construction Accountant with 5+ years of proven expertise in managing accounting functions within the construction industry. This role will require a detail-oriented professional with excellent problem-solving skills and a thorough understanding of accounting principles and construction-specific practices, such as project costing, AIA billing, and job costing. The Construction Accountant will facilitate financial reporting, project budgeting, and compliance to ensure accurate and efficient financial management across multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Financial Management: Prepare, analyze, and maintain accurate financial statements for ongoing construction projects, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
+ Job Costing: Monitor and reconcile job cost reports, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs to ensure accuracy and profitability of projects.
+ AIA Billing: Prepare, process, and review AIA payment applications, including related documentation such as lien waivers and conditional releases.
+ Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with project managers to develop budgets, track expenses, and prepare cash flow projections for construction projects.
+ Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage AP and AR processes, including vendor payments, subcontractor invoices, and client billing, while ensuring compliance with contract terms.
+ Bank Reconciliation: Perform monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
+ Compliance and Audit: Ensure all financial records and contracts are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. Assist management in audits and project-specific financial reviews when required.
+ Reporting: Create and distribute project-specific financial reports, including cost-to-complete reports, estimated profit margins, and variance analyses.
+ Software Utilization: Utilize construction accounting software, such as Quickbooks, Sage 300 (formerly Timberline), Viewpoint, Procore, or other industry-specific platforms to manage project accounting tasks.
+ General Ledger Management: Perform detailed general ledger reconciliations and journal entries for construction projects and resolve discrepancies as necessary.

+ Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
+ Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry, with a thorough knowledge of construction-specific accounting practices.
+ Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g. Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, etc.).
+ Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing methods, and AIA billing procedures.
+ Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with project managers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
+ Problem Solving: Ability to resolve discrepancies, manage tight deadlines, and identify financial risks within projects.
+ Detail Orientation: High level of accuracy in managing financial data, reports, and project records.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements and union compliance reporting.
